Ο Αμεντέο Κλεμέντε Μοντιλιάνι ήταν Ιταλός ζωγράφος και γλύπτης.

Γεννήθηκε στην πόλη Λιβόρνο της Τοσκάνης και ξεκίνησε τις σπουδές του στις καλές τέχνες στην Ιταλία πριν μετακομίσει στο Παρίσι το 1906, όπου άρχισε να δημιουργεί το προσωπικό καλλιτεχνικό ύφος του. Φιλάσθενος στο μεγαλύτερο μέρος της ζωής του, πέθανε σε ηλικία 35 ετών. Το ψευδώνυμο του ήταν Μόντι (Modi).

Ο Μοντιλιάνι θεωρείται ένας από τους προβληματικότερους ζωγράφους στην αγορά τέχνης, καθώς αποτελεί έναν από τους πιο προσιτούς ζωγράφους για πλαστογράφηση[1]. Για τον λόγο αυτό κυκλοφορούν τουλάχιστον πέντε αναλυτικοί κατάλογοι παρουσίασης των γνωστών γνήσιων έργων του (catalogues raisonnés). Παλαιότεροι κατάλογοι, όπως τα βιβλία των Άρθουρ Φάνστιελ και Τζόζεφ Λάνθεμαν θεωρούνται σήμερα ξεπερασμένοι.

The tragically short-lived Italian Artist Modigliani was undoubtedly one of the best portrait artists of the modern era, whose instantly recognizable portrait art and female nudes were sadly unappreciated during his lifetime. The subject of the portrait we have here, was Modigliani's last mistress, Jeanne Hebuterne (1898-1920), whom he met in July 1917 when she was a nineteen year old art student, at the Academie Colarossi, Paris. In the last three years of his life, Modigliani painted Jeanne in more than twenty works but not once does she appear naked. Modigliani chose only professional models for his nudes. Jeanne Hebuterne was to all intents and purposes his wife. The Metropolitan Museum's portrait of Jeanne is unique in that it is the only one showing her less than fully dressed. Her white chemise, however, suggests modesty and chastity. She was almost certainly pregnant at the time – she gave birth to a daughter in November 1918. When Modigliani died from tuberculosis in early 1920, Jeanne – pregnant with their second child – committed suicide. Although there were no fundamental changes in his behavior, Modigliani's portraits of his young lover suggest the artist's newfound sense of peace and serenity. Less stylized than those in the artist's earlier works, the sitter's features, especially the sly, sideways gaze, suggest a psychological clarity that communicates Hebuterne's inner character. The painting is lovingly alluring in its every detail, from Hebuterne's long almond-shaped face, with its softly falling auburn hair, her gently sloping shoulders and slender arms, to her wrists and hands. . . ?️ ?️ ??
